South extends Taylor tenure

South Melbourne coach Chris Taylor has signed a long-term contract extention with the club this week, a reward for guiding the side to the inaugural PS4 NPL Victoria title.

As part of the new deal, Taylor will also have the added responsiblity of overseeing the NPL football structure and football curriculum at the club.

Taylor joined the club mid-way through the 2013 Victorian Premier League season, and took South all the way to the Preliminary Final, only to be knocked out by eventual champion Northcote City.

Last season, Taylor led South to an 11-match winning run to begin the season, creating an unassailable lead at the top of the table.

His efforts also saw him voted the 2014 NPL Coach of the Year, and guided the team to the PS4 NPL National Semi-Final only to be defeated by Metrostars.

South Melbourne Football Director Nicholas Maikousis had no hesitation in ensuring Taylor's tenure at the club was extended.

"Chris’ efforts over the past sixteen months both on and off the park have been nothing short of extraordinary," Maikousis said.

"We cannot wait to continue building the football side of the Club over the next few years, with Victoria’s most successful coach."
