No joy for new Sun in loss to Hume

By Matthew McNamara

Hume City has won its second game on the trot and left new Goulburn Valley Suns coach Peter Zois with more questions than answers after his side suffered a 4-1 defeat at Broadmeadows Valley Park on Sunday.

The home side made a blistering start when Petar Franjic rose highest to head home a Nick Hegarty free kick after just six minutes.

With the crowd still filtering in, Melbourne Victory youth team sensation Johnny Buceto scored an absolute cracker with a drive just outside of the box.

Hume City appeared to have no intention of letting the foot off the pedal, and after 23 minutes found itself in complete control when Englishman Hegarty coolly slotted past Philip Petrovski in the Suns goal.

After the break the Suns almost got one back when Ben Clarke hit the crossbar from a great effort just inside the box.

Minutes later it was Hume’s turn to hit the crossbar when Baki Efe's effort hit the bar and his second effort sailed over the bar with Petrovski beaten.

With only 15 minutes remaining, Hume suffered a cruel blow with captain Hegarty having to be taken off the park after suffering what appeared to be a serious injury.

The Suns were rewarded with their second-half pressure when Shane Rexhepi fouled Clarke in the box.

Craig Carley, the Suns’ top scorer, calmly disposed of the penalty to give the visitors a lifeline.

But the game was sealed in the 86th minute when Kliment Taseski nearly lobbed the ball over the advancing Petrovski to ensure the three points.

Hume coach Louie Acevski was delighted with his team’s start.

"We started brilliantly today. It makes a huge difference when you can be 3-0 up after 30 minutes,” Acevski said.

“I don't think we've played our best football just yet, but we are definitely improving each week and it's great to get two wins on the trot.

It's a short turnaround this week as we play on Friday night, so my job is to make sure we get the lads ready to go again against Port Melbourne."

Peter Zois, in his first game in charge of the Suns, was notably disappointed.

"It's never good when you lose 4-1. So overall it's not good enough,” Zois said.

“But there was moments when we looked OK, but the game is played over 90 minutes and when you look at the whole picture it just wasn't good enough.

“We did face a very good team in Hume who I have no doubt will be up there this year."
