Season preview: Pascoe Vale

2013 finish: Pascoe Vale finished 10th in the 2013 Victorian Premier League (VPL), one spot above the relegation zone.

NPL 2014 squad: Stefaan Sardelic (GK), Yaren Sozer (GK), Eli Luttmer, Nathan Megic, Tomislav Milardovic, Alvaro Carrillo, Adrian Talarico, Michael Ferrante, Carl Recchia, Joseph Youssef, Luca Santilli, Jonathan Voulgaris, Roberto Di Vito, Daniel Chaabani, Davey Van’t Schip, Marco Santilli, Mark Pistininzi, Mathew Lazarides

Key signings: Carl Recchia (South Melbourne), Nathan Megic (A.S Union Quinto, Italy), Alvaro Carrillo (Brunswick City), Eli Luttmer (Taroona Football Club, Tasmania), Jonathan Voulgaris

Key departures: Cody Sellwood (Goulburn Valley Suns), Hernan Espindola (Goulburn Valley Suns), Greg Lombardo (Northcote City)

The gaffer: Vitale Ferrante is no stranger to success at Pascoe Vale. Under his leadership, the team was promoted to the VPL at the end of 2012 and competed admirably in its first season in the top tier last year. Ferrante will again guide Pascoe Vale into a new league this year.

One to match: Canberra-native Nathan Megic has just landed back in Australia after a stint in Italy with Serie D (C) side A.S. Union Quinto. The defender was a finalist in Nike’s The Chance contest, reaching the final 100 in 2012. Before his stint in Italy, Megic was playing in the ACT Premier League for Canberra Olympic. He is expected to slot into Pascoe Vale’s back four this season.

Former A-League midfielder Carl Recchia is another big signing for the boys from the north-west.
