Wade the MC for NPL launch
Football Federation Victoria (FFV) is pleased to announce former Socceroos captain Paul Wade as MC for its official National Premier Leagues (NPL) 2014 season launch on Wednesday night.
Wade will be joined by Football Federation Australian CEO David Gallop and Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou - a proud Victorian - at the official launch at the Melbourne Arts Centre, with the trophy for the NPL Champions of Australia to also be on display.
FFV chief executive Mitchell Murphy said he was pleased to have the distinguished trio in Melbourne to mark an exciting period for Victorian football with the beginning of the inaugural NPL.
“It is time to officially begin an exciting new chapter in Victorian football and we are delighted Paul (Wade), David (Gallop) and Ange (Postecoglou) will play vital roles in the launch said,” Mr Murphy said.
“We look forward to working closely with NPL clubs to raise the bar in both player development and the standard of coaching. It will be an exciting journey.”
Rivals Heidelberg United and South Melbourne will contest the first NPL match at Olympic Village, a night after the launch.
Last season’s Victorian Premier League champion Northcote City opens its NPL campaign with an away trip to Melbourne Knights on Friday night, while new entity Goulburn Valley Suns hosts Oakleigh Cannons on Saturday night.
Round 1 of the NPL and NPL 1 will be played over five days, concluding with Bulleen Lions hosting Moreland Zebras in a Monday night NPL 1 fixture.
