Samoa announce their best team in thirty years

Samoa Observer

The Samoa Football Soccer Federation has named their 21 man squad that will compete in the August-September South Pacific Games.

The Team is considered to be the best team in 30 years, having experienced players not only locally but also internationally. In fact seven players are off-island.
Technical Adviser Jerry Tuimaseve told Observer Sport, the level of Soccer in Samoa has advanced a lot in the last 30 years. Fitness and skills of players have improved and contributing much to that improvement are the training methods being used, for example the well balanced diet the players are put on. "The training level that the team is at right now, is very much in comparison with Australia and New Zealand," said Tuimaseve
"The players are under a strict diet, limiting fat, meat and also carbohydrate, we know that food affects the performance of the players very much."
"Our management is proud and happy with the results that we have seen from the players in training. They have improved a lot in terms of fitness and skills."
The National Team will be playing for more than a gold medal in the Games. FIFA has allowed the South Pacific Games to be a qualifying round not only for the World Cup but also the Olympics.
"If we win gold during the Games, we will be qualified to play New Zealand for a spot in the Soccer World Cup," said Tuimaseve.
