RUGBY LEAGUE BRISBANE
Following their respective AGMs on 14 November 2017, Greater Brisbane Junior Rugby League (GBJRL) clubs and Brisbane Second Division Rugby League (BSDRL) clubs embraced the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) governance principles and voted overwhelmingly to amalgamate.
In 2018 season, Rugby League Brisbane boasts its administration of the largest combined rugby league competitions in the world, with 15,945 player registrations (12, 391 juniors and 3,554 seniors). It presides over approximtely 457 games played each weekend, played between 56 affiliated clubs. Four Zone Advocates assist in overseeing communication between clubs. Congratulations to all teams that play the Greatest Game of All in the true spirit of competition.
Rugby League Brisbane is governed by a Board of Directors, supported by the following Committees: Game Development, Competitions, Governance, Finance & Risk Management, and Sponsorship & Events.
The League has five equivalent staff members led by the Manager, Shane McNally, who all pay tribute to the lifeblood of the sport, the amazing club volunteers who make the game very special to everyone.
Looking forward: In keeping its focus on fun and development and creating a great experience for players, the League is excited to trial the NRL's Player Development Framework in the 2019 season. Key recommendations of the Framework include
> prioritising the tackle from a skill acquisition perspective
> introducing an 18-month registration window for junior players born after 30 June
> no finals until U13s competition.
