RUGBY LEAGUE BRISBANE
Following their respective AGMs on 14 November 2017, Greater Brisbane Junior Rugby League (GBJRL) clubs and Brisbane Second Division Rugby League (BSDRL) clubs embraced the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) governance principles and voted overwhelmingly to amalgamate.
The ASC is a Commonwealth body responsible for developing and funding Australian sport. In June 2015 it published mandatory sports governance principles and called for sports to take a unified approach to behaviours, processes and supporting systems.
The ASC governance model recommended one administration body managed by a Board. The formation of Rugby League Brisbane Limited ensures the administration of the League is 'best practice' and allows it and clubs an optimised ranking to improve access to funding opportunities.
Club structures were not affected by the amalgamation, and current club activities were not impacted. Clubs retained their independence over club events and finances, and club interests are now represented via Committees supporting the Board. Players will continue to play games as scheduled, with strategic planning of the whole competition - from juniors to seniors - offering improved pathways for players to transition through the game.
Members of the inaugural Board of Directors of Rugby League Brisbane are: Steve Tierney (Chairman), Peter Sullings, Wayne Smith, Murray Smith, Steve Lacey, Barry Harrison, Ed Duggan, Jeff Coutts and David Bennett.
