THE Bulldogs have endured a season to forget but their youth department is barking, led by a talented 19-year-old from the same nursery as Canterbury great Terry Lamb.

Five-eighth Aidan Sezer, named yesterday at No.6 in the Toyota Cup team of the year, is widely rated an outstanding prospect and is about to gain an exceedingly qualified mentor to guide him to the next level - incoming Canterbury halves coach Brett Kimmorley.

''He's a good kid ... he's got a lot of talent,'' said Kimmorley, who will play his final NRL game, against Manly, on Sunday. ''He was chased by a few clubs last year and we fought very hard to keep him.

''If you talk about good Toyota Cup sides they control the game very well, kick very well and he's got a wonderful passing game. I think he's very important to this side winning the comp. It will be interesting to see how he finishes the year in some big games, then, going forward, how far he kicks.''

Sezer has been key in the young Bulldogs' drive towards title favouritism after a miserable start to the year - they were winless until round eight but since then have lost only once in 16 matches. Also a brilliant goalkicker, Sezer leads this year's under-20's point-scorers' list with 219.

Sezer's mother, Tanya, is an indigenous Australian, while his father, Yucel, is Turkish. It was he who turned a young Aidan on to rugby league at Lamb's junior club, Chester Hill Hornets. ''My old man has been out here since a young age and he's a mad rugby league fan,'' Sezer said. ''When I was six he saw an ad in the newspaper about Terry Lamb and the 50th anniversary for Chester [Hill], so he took me out there. I got into it and have loved it ever since."
