Australian Olympic Committee announces squad for Ashgabat 2017

This year's event is due to take place in Turkmenistan's capital Ashgabat between September 17 and 27.
It is set to involve 62 National Olympic Committees - 45 from the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and 17 from Oceania in a special collaboration between the two continents. The Australian team will contest weightlifting, wrestling and taekwondo.

Fiji finishes third in Oceania battle

Fiji bagged 17 gold medals, 18 silver and 22 bronze medals. Australia won the championships with 63 gold medals, 54 silver and 29 bronze medals. New Zealand finished second with 34 gold medals, 22 silver and 20 bronze medals. Fiji coach Albert Miller said the relay teams were the most impressive during the competition.

Tonga's Parliament repealed the Pacific Games Organising Act earlier last week, signalling the end of any hopes they would stage the event.The country was handed a deadline of June 30 to address financial concerns over staging the 2019 Pacific Games, or they risk officially losing the hosting rights.

Tonga Parliament voted against hosting 2019 Pacific Games

Last week a Motion for an Order to tell Government to Host the 2019 Pacific Games was presented. Parliament rejected that motion with votes of 13-9.During an evening session, the Whole House Committee passed a Bill to terminate the Pacific Games Organising Act 2013. 11 members voted to terminate the games and 9 voted in favour of the games.
