Key OSEP Coaching Course On In Vanuatu

On 11 September, the Oceania Sports Education Program (OSEP) will be conducting a week-long Coaches’ Course in Port Vila.

The OSEP workshop will run over six days consisting of two parts which will address Development as well as Strength and Conditioning.  These courses are regionally recognised as Accredited and Competency Base Assessment courses.

This course, while prioritising the Van2017 Games sports, is also open to coaches from non-participating National sporting federations in Vanuatu. The objective being to capacity build on the skills sets of coaches from all sports.

There will be up to 20 participants from at least 12 sports attending the development course with the S&C course open to those who successfully complete the first part of the week and those who get through the whole week will then be eligible to participate in higher level regional development courses in the future.

The six-day course will be conducted by three OSEP facilitators from Fiji - Talemo Waqa, Lemeki Savua and Tihrani Uluinakauvadra who will cover development areas such as coaching processes, planning, safety, function and perhaps most importantly, the elements of values and a Code of Conduct.

In the final part of the week the instructors will underline the importance of athlete development, anatomical adaptation, fitness requirements, sports specific conditioning, planning and fitness testing.

With the Pacific Mini Games just a short few months away, this type of preparation for those off the playing field is just as important as the training for athletes taking part on the field.

The key objectives for courses such as these are to develop and enhance the capacity of all sports coaches to perform their role well with all that entails.
