200 Days, 29 Fridays before Summer Olympics


According to TASA Secretary General, that apart from Athletics, Tonga will try to qualify in Archery, Boxing, Swimming and Weightlifting. Taekwondo has missed out in the qualification last year and try to get a place through Tripartite Application (Wild Card).


Tonga NOC was very fortunate last year during its celebration of its Golden Jubilee with IOC President Jacques Rogge pledging an extra USD25,000 for the preparation of its athletes in its effort to qualify for the Games.


Takitoa added that in Athletics, ‘Ana Po’uhila Kisina is training very hard in Auckland while our NZ-based boxers are camping and training with Lolo Heimuli for the qualifying championship in March in Canberra. Further, our swimmers, ‘Amini is training in USA while ‘Ifa is preparing in Australia.
