About Us

Founded in 1961 as a non profit organization, the PNG Sports Federation (PNGSF) was established to enable our participation in the 1962 British Empire Games in Perth, Australia and the first South Pacific Games in Suva, Fiji in 1963.

We were accorded National Olympic Committee status in 1974 to enable our participation in the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, Canada. It is the legacy of being affiliated with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) which has also provided so many opportunities for the development of sport in Papua New Guinea.

Over the past forty-nine years, PNGSFOC has worked actively to ensure our participation at major international events to create opportunities for our sportsmen and women not only to compete and excel at an elite level, but also to broaden their general knowledge about cultures and lifestyles in other countries.

The PNGSFOC is responsible for coordinating the participation of PNG in any Multi-sport event patronised by the IOC, including the Pacific Games, Commonwealth Games and Olympic Games. It is a non-government organisation that represents the interests of its members, the National Sports Federations to Government. In addition, the PNGSFOC administers funding provided by Olympic Solidarity for the development of sport in PNG.

We are currently striving to obtain out own headquarters so that we can better service the needs of our members and ultimately provide real administrative assistance to those member N.F.'s that are unable to afford the establishment of their own headquarters.
