Team Palau Arrives Safely in Beijing

Team Palau at the Olympic Village

The Team has arrived safely in Beijing, without any problems, and are settled in the Olympic Village.  They have begun training and are getting ready to host a Welcome and Flag Raising Ceremony on Monday, 5th August at 11:00am at the Olympic Village.

On Friday, August 8th, the Team will join 204 other countries at the Opening Ceremony of the 29th Olympiad, Beijing.  They are the 119th country to march in to the National Stadium (also known as the Bird's Nest) following Team Romania.  Heading the Team, proudly displaying our Nation's Flag, will be wrestler Elgin Tulop Elwais.  Elgin, who is 23 years old, is our fist Olympian to qualify to the Olympic Games based on his own merit.

The athletes are scheduled to compete from the 14th to the 17th; swimmer Siko will be competing in the 50m freestyle on the 15th; wrestlers Tulop and Ski are scheduled for the 14th-17th in both the freestyle and greco roman categories; and our sprinters will both compete in the 100m dash, with Jesse competing on the 15th and Peoria on the 16th.
