IOC Executive Master of Arts Olympic Studies degree program

The International Olympic Committee is circulating information on the Executive Master of Arts Olympic Studies degree program, which is implemented by the German Sport University Cologne in cooperation with four other European universities. The programme offers a multi- and interdisciplinary approach to the identification with the Olympic values. Its teaching contents about the diverse aspects of the Olympic Movement such as commercialisation, marketing, professionalisation, politicisation, internationalisation, administration and peace-building efforts are substantially linked with sport ethical and educational considerations.

The M.A. Olympic Studies is a fully accredited Master degree programme, which is structured as a 2-year part-time programme. This allows participants to continue their occupational obligations while being involved in the programme. The knowledge provided in the M.A. Olympic Studies can be directly transferred to the respective daily working practices of participants from National Olympic Committees, which could be amongst other educational, organisational, administrative and communication projects. This is a clear benefit of the M.A. Olympic Studies.

The next intake of the M.A. Olympic Studies will start in March 2018, with the application deadline being the 31st of August 2017. For further information and to apply, please contact the Executive Director of the M.A. Olympic Studies, Prof. Dr. Stephan Wassong (wassong@dshs-koeln.de) or visit www.dshs-koeln.de/olympicstudies.

In cooperation with the IOC Olympic Studies Centre, Olympic Solidarity (Olympic Education, Culture and Legacy programme / Training) will offer a limited number of scholarships for the programme covering tuition fees amounting to EUR 5,000 in addition to a grant of up to EUR 5,000 aimed at helping to offset expenses for air tickets and accommodation. Priority will be given to the NOCs deemed to have the greatest needs.

NOCs that would like to support a participant (max. one per country per Olympiad plan) so that they can benefit from this scholarship can do so through the dedicated application form to be sent to os_olympicvalues@olympic.org by the 31st of August 2017 at the latest for candidates for the 2018/20 edition. Kindly note that candidates will need to apply to the German Sport University Cologne separately and be admitted to the course before OS can consider a scholarship.

Send email to osep@onoc.org.fj for the MA Olympic Studies flier and application form.

Comment Guidelines: The SportsTG Network is made up of players, families and passionate sports followers like you who have a strong opinion about sport. That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand. So play fair and have fun, and thanks for your contribution.
