Oceania RADO and Fiji National Anti-doping Organization (NADO) setup an Anti-doping Awareness Station for Fintel KLRC international Badminton Tournament held at the FMF Dome in Suva 6-8 October. The Station provided basic information about Doping Control process, the traps and consequences of using drugs, and of course the Rights and Responsibilities of an athlete.
Athletes from Fiji, Malaysia, New Caledonia and Samoa visited the station to play the 'Doping Quiz' created by WADA for Outreach Programs. Fanny Simpson (Fiji Doping Control Officer) and I enjoyed talking with some young athletes about Doping in Sports.
Persuading young Oceania athletes to check out the station and to play the 'Doping Quiz' was bit of a challenge for myself and Fanny. Our athletes are very shy people especially when coming across new things. With more awareness and maybe having giveaways/ prizes for doing the quiz could be the solution to help break the barriers for our athletes in the future.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Oceania Badminton Organizing Committee, particularly Ms. Lorraine Mar for inviting Oceania RADO and Fiji NADO to be a part of your sport.
