The third Pacific Sports Ministers Meeting was held in Wallis and Futuna on Sunday 1 September 2013, tying neatly into the opening of the 9th Pacific Mini Games.
Ministers and senior officials from 13 Pacific Island nations discussed a range of topics including New Caledonia's legacies from hosting the 2011 Pacific Games, Papua Guinea's financial approach to hosting the 2015 Pacific Games, support for Pacific Sport from the Government of Australia, as well as the support provided by the International Olympic Committee to the development of elite athletes.
Ministers also offered views on two issues being considered by the Pacific Games Council membership at present: the possible replacement of the Pacific Mini Games with a Pacific Youth Games, and the possible expansion of the participation of future Pacific Games sport programs to include Australia and New Zealand.
The meeting Communique is attached and reaffirms the region's governments to supporting and encouraging the development of sport in the Pacific.
