The Pacific Games Council has called for nominations from its 22 Pacific Games Associations for the 4th annual Pacific Sports Awards which will be presented in Wallis Island on 18 October.
The awards recognise the "most meritorious international performance/contribution" for the period 1 July 2011 until 30 June 2012, which takes in the New Caledonia 2011 Pacific Games as well as a host of other international sporting events.
Nominations are to be submitted by the 22 Pacific Games Associations no later than 16 July.
The winners of the 2010/2011 Awards are listed below, and some of these athletes will no doubt be in contention to feature prominently in 2011/2012:
Outstanding Sports Administrator of the Year - Laisiasa PUAMAU (Basketball, FIJI)
Outstanding Coach of the Year - Jone DELAI (Athletics, FIJI)
Outstanding Technical Official of the Year - Thierry COLEUX (Taekwondo, NEW CALEDONIA)
Outstanding Junior Athlete of the Year - Steven KARI (Weightlifting, PNG)
Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year - Ele OPELOGE (Weightlifting, SAMOA)
Outstanding Male Athlete of the Year - Itte DETENAMO (Weightlifting, NAURU)
Outstanding Team of the Year - NEW CALEDONIA Men’s Volleyball Team
Lifetime Achievement Award - Sir John DAWANINCURA (PAPUA NEW GUINEA)
