Exactly one year before the 2011 Pacific Games in New Caledonia, the Pacific Games Council met in Noumea for its annual General Assembly on 26 and 27 August.
Delegates from 21 Pacific Games Associations were welcomed to New Caledonia with warmth and friendship by the host Pacific Games Association (CTOS-NC), the NC2011 Organising Committee, as well as by the New Caledonia government, congress, provinces and customary leaders.
The delegates were enormously impressed by the Athletes' Village as well as by the competition venues and the services which will be provided to the athletes in 2011.
During the General Assembly, delegates voted on a number of reforms to the Games Charter, including strengthening the relationship between the Pacific Games and the International Federations through changes to the Athlete Eligibility criteria. Elections for future Pacific Games host cities will be brought forward by a year so that Games are awarded seven years before the event as per Olympic and Commonwealth Games practices. And finally, a more inclusive and creative Pacific-style "Games Relay" concept has been endorsed, replacing the notion that such a relay must incorporate a "Torch".
Allez Nouvelle Caledonie en 2011!
