On 15 April, Council President Vidhya Lakhan joined NC2011 President Pascale Bastien-Thiry, CTOS-NC, and dignitaries from the New Caledonia Government to celebrate 500 Days To Go before the Opening Ceremony of the 14th Pacific Games in New Caledonia. The occasion was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony in the town square as well as the opening of the NC2011 Roundabout near the main stadium at Magenta featuring the flags of the 22 participating countries and territories.
Whilst in Noumea, President Lakhan inspected many of the Games venues, including the new Athletes' Village at Nouville. He also met with the President of the New Caledonia Government, Mr Philippe Gomez, the Minister for Sport, Mr Jean-Claude Briault, and members of the host PGA (CTOS-NC) and the NC2011 Organising Committee. He also took the opportunity to visit the Pacific Islander athletes training hard for the Games at the Oceania Weightlifting Institute under the management of Paul Coffa.
