Oceania Institute Lifters Dominate First 2 Days of Lifting..
New Caledonia based institute lifters have dominated the first four categories at the Oceania Championships (Senior) currently being held in Darwin in conjunction with the Arafura Games.
Leading the sensational onslaught, institute lifter, Yukio Peter (Nauru) smashed the Commonwealth snatch record with a brilliant lift of 157kg in the 77kg category. He clean and jerked 190kg to win his category and the gold medal with a total of 347kg.
In the 69kg category, 19 year old institute lifter, Takenibeia Toromon (Kiribati) did his best ever total of 265kg to clinch the gold medal in his category.
In the 62kg category, institute lifter, Manuel Minginfel (FSM) won the gold medal when he snatched 110kg and clean & jerked 144kg for a 254kg total.
In the 56kg category, another institute lifter, Manueli Tulo (Fiji) won the gold medal with a total of 218kg. And just 1kg behind him with a total of 217kg, was training partner, 17 year old institute lifter, Elson Brechtefeld (Nauru) who finished up with the silver medal, but not before snatching 94kg smashing the Oceania Youth records in the process.
So far the Pacific countries have dominated the Oceania Championships in the men’s categories with four categories left tomorrow - the 85kg, 94kg, 105kg and 105+kg.
