Queen’s Baton relay in Vanuatu

The Queen’s Baton has arrived in Port Vila, Vanuatu on Friday 23 April on its way to the DELHI 2010 XIX Commonwealth Games.

As a tradition for the Commonwealth Games the Queen’s Baton will be traveling through all the Commonwealth countries and scheduled to arrive on the opening day of the games in the host country. The baton was escorted by representatives of the New Delhi Games.

Vanuatu Basketball Federation was proud to be the first Federation to take the first relay after the Minister of Sports and the Chairman of Vasanoc during the run in Port Vila.

Rosemary Leona our treasurer was the chosen runner and the distance covered was from the Paton Memorial Church to the Parliament House then then it is taken to the Saralana stage for the church service.

VBF is very pleased to have participated in carrying the baton with the message of the Queen Elisabeth which was inscribed on a gold palm leaf and will be read at the opening ceremony of the DELHI 2010 XIX Commonwealth Games. The baton arrived from PNG and has left this morning, Tuesday 27 for the Solomn Islands.
