National Basketball Development Officer

The Tonga National Basketball Association (TNBA) is seeking a highly motivated person to fill the full time salary position of National Basketball Development Officer (NBDO).

The TNBA is responsible for developing the game of basketball in Tonga, working in conjunction with FIBA Oceania.

The successful applicant will be required to undertake a broad range of basketball activities to help develop the game including, but not limited to:

  • Conduct Basketball Clinics and Visits in Primary Schools in Tongatapu as part of the TASA’s School Visit Program
  • Run Education Workshops (coaching and refereeing)
  • Set up and run Basketball Tournaments and Competitions
  • Edit and constantly update the TNBA’s website
  • Perform general administration duties, including writing monthly reports
  • Assist with setting the strategic direction of the TNBA
  • Follow the goals and objectives as set by the committee and by FIBA Oceania

This person must have a basic understanding of the game of basketball and must be able to communicate with a wide range of people, to work independently and as part of a team, coordinate groups and individuals and have the ability to identify basketball talent. They must be a highly motivated individual who can display time management skills, work unsupervised, find solutions to problems, initiate programs, and have a “can do” attitude.

Basketball experience and experience in working with youth is preferable but not required.

It is essential that applicants have a current driver’s licence and a private vehicle.

The full time position will commence at the beginning of May. Weekend and out of hours work will be required.
