PNOC Sports Award Dinner

It was an indeed an excellent night of Awarding for all the sports federations held on Saturday October 29th at the Palau Pacific Resort. The setting was a clear night with all the Stars out, a light Ocean Breeze to cool the night, Soft Palauan Music to entertain the guests who wore an Island Casual Attire to fit the tropical setting of the Palau Pacific Resort. Each sports federation had their opportunity to Award and Recognize their best athletes, coaches, officials, sponsors and volunteers. Everyone had fun and enjoyed dinner and left with a big smile of satisfaction for the winners and all who strive to help our young people excell in both sports and in life.

Palau Basketball Federation Awards:

Male Athlete of the Year: Javis Pedro - All Star Selection in 2004 Micronesia Basketball Tournament in Guam. Shell National Basketball League 2004-05 MVP. 2004 Business League MVP. representing PPR.

Female Athlete of the Year: Sesengel Ketebengang -All Star Selection in 2004 Micronesia Basketball Tournament in Guam. Surangel Women National Basketball League 2004 MVP. 2004 interscholastic Sports League Girls Varsity MVP.

Coach of the Year: Winkler Maech. Coached team IDIDERS U15, U17 and Open division of the 2004 Koror State Hamlet League summer proram. Coached Team IDIDERS to the semifinals of the 2004-05 Shell National Basketball League. Has been very active with the coaching association of the PBF in attending coaching clinics and other basketball fucnctions.

Logan Ngiriou won both Volunteer of the Year Award and the Referee of the Year Award. He received a Plaque for the Volunteer Award and $100.00 from the Referees Association for his achievements. Logan is a dedicated person who is always around in every basketball function. Officiated in Shell NBL, Surangel WNBL, Koror State Hamlet League programs, ISL Programs, 2004 MBT Guam and helped in the PNOC Outreach programs.

Villany Remengesau won the Table Official of the Year Award (new award) and received a certificate and $50.00 from the Referees Asscociation. She officiated in the Shell NBL, Surangel WNBL, Koror State Hamlet League and various basketball programs. She is not only very dedicated but she is in a wheelchair and she was never late to her assignments.

Corporate Sponsors Awards went to Shell Palau and Surangel and Sons Co. for their Financial Support to the National men and women Programs.

Sponsor of the Year Awards went to Koror State Hamlet League for their efforts in both financial support to teams in the Shell NBL and Surangels WNBL and also the Koror State Hamlet League Summer programs.

The Last Award went to the Family of the late James "Messy" Rikrik in honor of his commitment and effort on the basketball court in representing Palau in the 1990 Micronesian Games, 1994 Micronesian Games, 1993 Oceania Championship in Apia, Samoa and Various State and National Games in Palau. A Moment of Silence was observed on his behalf.
