All set for PYD cage tourney
THE second Pinoy Youth Dreamers International Invitational Under-18 Boys Basketball Challenge finally come off the wraps tomorrow (March 24) at the Batis Aramin Hotel and Resort in Lucban, Quezon.
Four games, featuring all the six teams from Guam and one from Canada, will kick off hostilities in this prestigious 16-team, four-group competition starting at 3 p.m.
George Washington of Guam and Crossover Sports of Canada open hostilities at 3 p.m.
Guam teams Father Duenas and Okkodo clash in the second game at 4:40 p.m., while Simon Sanchez and John F. Kennedy Islanders square off in the third game at 6 p.m.
Tiyan HigH School of Guam and Maryhill battle each other in the fourth game at 7:30 p.m.
The rest of the participating teams will make their debut the following day (March 25).
PYD president-coach Beaujing Acot and PYD Lucban Chapter chairman Chicoy Capistrano will grace the colorful opening ceremony at 2 p.m.
“We expect more exciting games in all four groups this year,” said Acot. “The foreign teams will surely have their hands full against their local counterparts.”
After the opening day, the tournament resumes on Saturday, March 25 with 12 games -- six at the Batis Aramin and six at the Kamay ni Hesus covered court.
The single-round tournament ends on Tuesday, March 28.
The teams:
Group A -- Simon Sanchez (Guam), JFK Islanders (Guam), Tayabas, Rookies.
Group B -- Canada, George Washington (Guam), PYD Blue, Lucena.
Group C -- Father Duenas (Guam), Okkodo (Guam), PYD White, Mamba.
Group D -- Tiyan High School (Guam), PYD Red, Holy Rosary, Maryhill.
Supporting the five-day PYD competition is the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), headed by chairman Jose Jorge Corpuz and general manager Alexander Balutan.
