FINA Artistic Swimming Clinic for Coaches
FINA ARTISTIC SWIMMING CLINIC FOR COACHES – AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND
Julie Jasontek from Ohio, Cinninnatti presented a very successful Artistic Swimming Clinic for coaches aimed at intermediate level coaches in Auckland from 6th to 10th December 2017.
The clinic was well attended with over 40 participants from all over New Zealand, Australia and Singapore attending.
Julie covered many aspects of artistic swimming and was very welcoming to questions and providing any information requested by participants. Some of the topics covered were flexibility, conditioning, acrobatics, speed swimming, routine skills, land training, warm-up routine, dynamic exercise, core exercises, choreography for free program and combo, injury prevention, mental preparation as well as the new figures and technical elements for the upcoming four years. Each day consisted of time in the conference room with presentations then time at the pool with some swimmers which Julie used for demonstration.
Oceania is a multi-cultural community, we have nationalities from all over the world coaching and working with artistic swimming. The opportunity for everyone to come together at a FINA clinic created an opportunity to develop unified and uniform outlook on our sport. It provided the participants with technical and practical information on the coaching of artistic swimming with reminders, advice and education to be familiar with the health and safety of participants.
We are very grateful to FINA for granting NZL the clinic and for the support in the running of the programme at the clinic – it was enjoyed by all participants who left the clinic feeling motivated and better educated and also having made new friends in the artistic swimming community which will lead to further support and camaraderie.
