YOUTH OLYMPIC QUALIFIER APRIL 2018 PORT MORESBY PAPUA NEW GUINEA

This is an opportunity for Oceania NFs to send their U18 Boys and Girls Teams to try to qualify for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games to be held in Argentina later in the year. Hockey was well represented in China for the last YOG Games by Australia and New Zealand Men and New Zealand and Fiji Women.

Hockey5s is the competition format and there is a real chance of having more Pacific Island members qualifying, especially as the Development Officers in Fiji, Solomon Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu have been doing extensive work in schools over the past 2 years.

COACHING YOUNG PLAYERS

Coaches, Parents, Teachers and Adult Players play a significant role in delivering safe, fun, engaging and appropriate development hockey experiences to young people and it is their approach that will encourage children to want to come back for more hockey.

Oceania Hockey Federation have a number of coaching courses that National Federations can deliver. Please refer to the Coaching Section of this website

Oceania HF has developed a "Play Hockey " Resource to assist teachers and coaches deliver quality sessions

Oceania Hockey Federation, together with FIH's TAP programme and Australia Government's Pacific Sport Partnership have development officers trained in quality school delivery  as well as after school and holiday programmes - see more on this in the development section.
