Overview

The Solomon Island basketball Federation (SIBF) is the national body of basketball of the Solomon Islands. Basketball has always been a popular sport within the Solomon Islands, and the establishment of the federation in the 1980's has helped the sport progress.

Basketball reached its peak during the late 1990's with a large competition featuring a number of different divisions for both mens and womens teams. Unfortunately during the times of the tension between 2001 - 2003 there was very little basketball played, and a large amount of the basketball infrastructure was destroyed.

Thanks to assistance from FIBA Oceania and the National Olympic Committee of the Solomon Islands (NOCSI) the SIBF commitee was reformed in 2003 to take the sport forward. At this time basketball has enjoyed a steady increase in both popularity and ability of all involved including players, referees, scorebench officials and administrators has improved.

The federation is involved with a number of competitions including the Primary School, High School, Under 20 years, Under 14 years and assists with any provincial association league run throughout the country.
