EKBA Finals Day 2015

Preparation for this years EKBA Finals Day are well underway with the event being held on Saturday 25th April at the Kings Recreation Centre, Canterbury.

For a detailed schedule of the event please refer to EKBA Finals Day Event Page or download our poster at the bottom of this page.

The Finals Day event brings the 2014/15 season to a close with four games in what promises to be a fantastic day of basketball in East Kent.

The first game is the newly introduced 3rd Place Grove Cup play off between Herne Bay and Folkestone Flames. Herne Bay’s good season is thanks to their younger players developing under the guidance of some strong senior players and through the East Kent Girls Development Squad training sessions. Flames have had a mixed season at times struggling for squad numbers, however with this issue seemingly resolved, an excellent late run has seen them make it to the play offs.

The second game is between Herne Bay and Canterbury Invicta. In what has been a very open season, the Bay’s excellent record saw them in the running among several other teams challenging for the league title. They also featured in last year’s Adams Plate final losing to Whitstable, so they will be looking to go one better this year and lift the trophy. Invicta are the dark horses but on their day are capable of beating anyone, as was evident in their defeat of this year’s eventual Men’s League Champions University of Kent (UKC).

The third game on the schedule is the Grove Cup Women’s Final between Women’s League Champions Canterbury Crusaders and UKC. Crusaders have enjoyed a superb second unbeaten league season and are also looking to retain the Grove Cup in order to achieve a ‘back to back’ double. Their only defeat this season was in an earlier Cup play-off game against UKC. So, the University, with a 1-2 record against Crusaders, will be looking to put the record straight and take the Cup for the first time since 2009.

The final game of the day is the Adrian Cook Cup Final which sees the UKC’s men’s team takes on Folkestone Saints. UKC have had a great season and took the title for the first time since 2001 with a 14-2 record. Saints are the current Cup holders and will be looking to prevent UKC from a League Cup Double and take the Cup for the third consecutive year. It promises to be an exciting final.

Similar to last year we are planning to hold additional entertainment during the game intervals including a match ball raffle, and this years shall be hosting a halfway line basketball shot challenge. Further details will be announced on the day.

The Finals Day will be rounded off by the annual Awards Evening, beginning at 19:30, with food, music and more entertainment activities. Tickets for the evening event are £5 per person. If you wish to attend, please email us at admin@eastkentbasketball.co.uk to confirm the number of tickets you require.
