Whether you’re sailing for the first time, or returning to the sport, or an experienced sailor looking for some relaxed cruising, sailing offers a variety of social activities both on and off the water.
Social sailing – Non-competitive participation that involves just going for a sail
Cruising – A form of social sailing where a destination to sail to is selected
Racing – A number of boats going round a course in a competitive structure. There are different levels of competition from more social or introductory racing, through to serious national and international regattas
Wednesday nights during daylight savings is a popular evening for a social sail at most clubs, as well as weekends. Contact your local sailing club here to find out more about social sailing activities near you.
Please note that going for a social sail may mean that there is no onwater safety support, and going for a sail is at your own risk. It is advised that those going out for a sail should be competent sailors, let someone know so they can raise an alarm if you don’t return, and it is important to check the forecast in advance but don’t rely on it. If in doubt don’t go out. If it is within your capabilities then launch and have a great time!
If you're looking for some non competitive sailing and social events, why not check out some the organised social sailing programs and events below...
