Goalkeeper Pagotto facing life ban after second positive dope test

ROME (AFP) - Goalkeeper Angelo Pagotto, who plays for recently-relegated Italian second division side Crotone, could be banned for life after testing positive for cocaine a second time.

The Italian Olympic Committee (CONI), which oversees all the governing bodies in Italian sport, said on Wednesday that traces of cocaine were found in a urine sample Pagotto gave after his side's match against Spezia on April 28.

CONI will wait for the results of a test on a second sample before deciding what action to take.

Pagotto, a former Italy under-21 international, was banned in 2000 after testing positive for cocaine while playing for Perugia.

Pagotto is the third player to test positive for cocaine this season after Sampdoria striker Francesco Flachi and Messina goalkeeper Nicholas Caglioni.
