The Long Weekend saw the club humming with activity as the Tasar Association held their State Titles in ideal conditions. 39 boats entered including a boat from Canberra. For many of the competitors, this was their first experience of sailing on Westernport Bay. All were impressed with our sailing waters, the friendly dolphins and the challenge of dealing with tides.
The club received many accolades from the sailors and their support crews for our conduct of the Championship. References were made to the friendly welcome, efficient running of the on-water races, the food and general support offered by the club and its members.
"What a great weekend! Thanks again to the club!"
"First thank you for a excellently conducted regatta over the weekend."
Racing was keen and close with the final result being decided in the last race. The State Champions, Paul and Bronwyn Ridgway are previous members of the club and so it was fitting that they took it out on "home" waters. See all the results HERE
The on-land activities included a dinner on the Saturday night, a Cocktail function early Sunday night and an Afternoon Tea on Monday organised and run by Heather Crabtree and Adrienne Dugay, supported by Glenda, and Lori. A kiosk was run from the Opera House with considerable success by Glenda and Tony Bayley.
On behalf of the General Committee I would like to thank all members and friends who assisted with the running of this Championship. Especially the following: Cameron Cantley-Smith, Colin Franke,Terry DeVries, Lyn Dugay, Chris Myers, Marg Douglas, Wendy Franke, Jim Douglas, Rohan Cantley-Smith, Bruce Douglas, Mark Axton, Andrew Stevens, Josh Franke, Anthony Cook and Eleonore Rich for their on-water work. To Bryan and Moira Hill, Christiane Coutant, Ron Bange and Kristin Merrington for their work on-land.
I would also like to recognise the considerable work done by the Rear Commodore, Andrew Hill in organising the event and liaising with the Tasar Association and the Power Boat Captain Frank Jurovic who ensured Rescue boats were ready, launched and retrieved.
Without the time and efforts of these willing people such a successful event could not take place. If you haven't been involved before, then consider volunteering next year. We would love to hear from other members.
