ROUND 6 MATCH REPORTS

Mitcham under 8 Black

Teams: Mitcham Black V Vermont Purple

Summary A fantastic match today with Mitcham continuing with their fantastic team play. Their run and carry was again a highlight. They shared and passed the ball magnificently.  Standouts today were our Encouragement award and medal winner Brody Wolst who was everywhere today. He kicked a nice goal and went in hard.  Our player of the week was Archer Howard who was persistent and ran hard all day. Archer did all the team things a coach loves to see and played his best game.  Our captain for the day was Jake (the Extractor) McConnell and showed his team how it is done.  At the coin toss before the game the umpire knew Jake by name and commented that he remembered him from last week. I think that is a good thing?  Liam O'Dwyer played well and took a nice mark today. Austin Loring was able to find space today and worked hard.  Thomas (the Terminator) Coulsen played another great game with 2 nice goals. One his goals was a great run across half the ground baulking multiple opponents and finishing the job (Mick McGuane style) .  Michael Bamford set up some terrific team play and had a clean pair of hands once again.  Max Lazarus had some great run out of defence and his passing and hitting up team mates was a highlight. He also kicked a great goal in the last quarter. Chloe (the Pressure Queen) Linnett was great today.  I reckon Chloe would have had about 20+ pressure acts today and her team mates could learn a thing or two from her about manning up. Ethan Schutt played well in the middle and does his best work in close. Ethan also beat 4 opponents at one point and nearly finished his work with a goal earning praise from the coach. Ben D'Costa was terrific with some great marks and finished his work with a lazy 4 goals. Cam Walters was huge again with several great marks. Cam stopped many opposition advances today and would have been close to the top of the "metres gained" stat. Daniel (the Dominator) Sagwan was classy as always and kicked a huge goal in the third quarter. Ethen Reed was brave once again and is earning a reputation for courageous acts. Flynn Hardy worked hard and fired off some lovely handballs.  A good win by the Blacks.

Best Players: Brody Wolst, Archer Howard, Thomas Coulsen, Jake McConnell, Camden Walters, Ben D'Costa

Goals: Ben D'Costa 4, Thomas Coulsen 2, Daniel Sagwan 2, Max Lazarus 1, Brody Wolst 1, Jake McConnell 1

Mitcham under 8 Yellow - Bye

Mitcham under 9 Black

Teams: Mitcham V East Ringwood

Summary With continued improvement each week, we were looking forward to the challenge of Round 6 versus East Ringwood.

We were low on numbers but not on spirit, as Archer led the boys out as captain and as Ruck.
Effort was the focus and Zach M showed the way with some great attack and defensive work.
Thomas and Zac C’s run and carry was great to see, even though the heavy ground did not agree with them bouncing. Jake continues to improve while Harvey was in the thick of it being awarded BOG by the opposition. Ollie kicked the ‘point of the year’ with a banana from the boundary, hitting the top of the goalpost, while Zac S from the under 8’s dazzled them with his footwork.
Great work Zac S, great work Tigers!

Best Players:  Zac M, Thomas M, Redshaw, Higgins

Goals: 2 Molinaro, 1 Mitchell, Redshaw, Chivers

Mitcham under 9 Yellow

Teams: Mooroolbark V Mitcham

Summary: Today the Mitcham U9 Yellow team had a hard fought game against a very good side from Moroolobark. The game was played in good conditions and our boys again took a while to get going. Mooroolbark were first to the ball and in front for the first half however our boys rallied in the second half and started getting first to the ball.  Let's bring that again next week for 4 quarters boys!  A special mention to Thomas Linnett and Charlie Oprwood for being awrded the medals and to Riley and Blake for winning the Two Brothers awards.

Best Players: Thomas Linnet, Charlie Orpwood, Blake Calder, Riley Bean, Declan Fox

Goals: Blake Calder 2, Charlie Orpwood 1, Declan Fox 1, Riley Bean 1

Mitcham under 10 Yellow

Teams: Mitcham V Wantirna Sth

Summary: We got off to a flying start this week kicking two goals in the first quarter and not really allowing the opposition any space to run.  What was pleasing most was our skills that have really improved over the season.  We were hitting targets and sharing the ball really well by hand and foot.  Our skipper today Josh Dakic led from the front and got most of the centre clearances, which set us going forward.  We were a bit too strong for the Wantirna South Devils and look forward to a strong Blackburn team this week.

Awards: Encouragement Medal - Charlie Cruse

Two Brother Café Award - Ryan McConnell

McDonalds Award - Archer Kane

Goals: Rishi Indugula 2, Charlie Wilson 2, Archer Kane 1 and Gus Atherton 1

Mitcham under 10 Girls

Teams: Mitcham V Montrose

Summary: On Sunday we ventured up to Montrose.  Our two captains for this round, Zahli and Ashley showed great leadership.  There were great displays of teamwork, courage, determination and resilience, but the most pleasing aspect is the continual improvement shown from all of the girls week to week. This week’s focus was to enjoy the game, communicate with their team mates and for the backline positions to stay on their players.  As the girls rotated through the backline throughout the game they all stayed on their players, had fun and communicated loudly on the field.  It was a super effort from all the girls. We gave 5 players each quarter to Montrose to even up numbers, with the girls enjoying playing against their Tigers team mates!

Best Players: Heidi (Coach's Medal), Perri (Two Brothers Voucher), Maddy (Haridressing voucher), Ashley & Akybe

Goals: 2 - Maeve, 1 - Bridget, Maddy, Heidi, Felicity & Maddisyn

Mitcham under 11 Black

Teams: Mitcham 0.1-1 V South Croydon 7.7-49

Summary: The boys took on South Croydon at Koonung on Sunday and got off to a reasonable start with some good contested work. Some loose checking saw South hit the scoreboard first as we failed to capitalise up forward, but the game was in the balance at quarter time. Some inconsistencies and loose checking crept in to our game in the second quarter leading to a couple of easy goals to our opponents. Our pressure got back to good levels at times in the third quarter but unfortunately it dropped right off in the last quarter which saw South Croydon run away with the game as too many players failed to compete or make an impact. Back to work on Wednesday to focus on the team values we spoke about at the end of the game.

Best Players: Tyson Darmody, Patrick Petterlin, Dylan Spencer Yates, Steve Ajani, Jaylen Allen

Mitcham under 11 A

Teams: Mitcham 0.1-1 V Vermont 6.8-44

Summary:  To say we had a hard day at the office is an understatement. We played a very hard edged and determined Vermont outfit that was too good for us today. It was pleasing that we fought hard in the second half and matched Vermont around the ground, however we couldn't manufacture a goal. I am a big advocate that you can take a lot out of losing a game of football. We need to be a more aggressive team in all facets of the game to compete in A Grade. We know that we can, we just need it to be consistent and constant.

Best Players: Jack Ewison, Max Irvine, James Wilson, Henry Monk, Willl Serong, Angus Butler

Mitcham under 12 Girls

Teams: Mitcham 3.5-23 V The Basin 2.3-15

Summary: This round the under 12 girls ventured to The Basin, because of the division changes we didn't know what to expect when coming up against this side. It was a tough game with the most tackles we had ever seen in a game, we were able to get on the board with goals from Matilda Ridgeway, Lauren & Erin. We got out to a handy lead but then the Basin came back and the game was close, but credit to our girls they stuck tough and the ball wasn't able to get past our centre half back Charlotte, who did a fantastic job at stopping a few goals, well done.  In the ruck Taya put up a great fight and Alessia roved perfectly.  Well done girls and go Tiges!

Best Players: Lauren, Alessia, Charlotte, Taya, Erin, Mathilda R

Goals: Lauren, Erin, Mathilda R

Mitcham under 12

Teams: Mitcham 5.6-36 V Blackburn 2.4-16

Summary:Even though there was lots happening off the ball in today's game, our team's focus for the contest and the ball never wavered.  Very, very proud of these young men, by the final siren we didn't have a bench and with 6 away this week, the sheer grit and determination of the boys was terrific. Great first up game from Noah Sharwood.

Best Players:  Ethan J, Luke M, Peter C, Noah S, Hudson G, Luke F, Ryan M

Goals:  Peter 2, Luca 1, Ryan O 1, Luke F 1

Mitcham under 13

Teams: Mitcham 2.17-29 V Kilsyth 2.3-15

Summary: Round 6 v Kilsyth @ Walker park began with both teams fighting for clean possessions in the middle. It cleaned up half way through the second quarter with our inaccuracy keeping Kilsyth in the game. Our 3rd quarters this season have been our strength in setting ourselves up for the win.

Best Players: Liam.James.Lachlan.Matty

Mitcham under 14 Girls

Teams: Mitcham 7.8-50 V Donvale 0.0-0

Summary:             After a two week break the U/14  Mitcham  Girls took on the local side Donvale at Nunawading ,first half very scrappy ,both sides not giving an inch ,it was physical and tough, we played well in patches ,the backline was holding them out time and time again in the middle it was a slog.  After the long break the girls decided to run hard and link up, a number of girls playing in new positions. Not singling one player out but l will, very impressed with young Hannah Linnett in and under the packs well done young lady.

Goals: G.simpson 2 ,Charlotte Docking ,2 Luccy Ongaro 2 ,Jade Mccormack 1 Best players: Hannah Linnett ,Kiara Alizzi ,Lucy D’Amico ,Jade Mccormack ,Charlotte Docking ,Meagan Fogarty ,Grace Simpson Lilly Carroll and Lucy Ongaro.

Mitcham under 14

Coldstream V Mitcham

Summary: Rd 6 saw us take on the top of the ladder Coldstream at their ground.  We knew it would be a tough ask but the boys set the tone of the game from the first bounce.  Players were attacking the ball hard, shepherding for teammates, running to open space and most importantly talking to their teammates.  This showed a marked improvement from previous weeks and it was great to watch the boys put in such really good efforts.  Even as the rain started to come down, players still kept pressuring the opposition and running to support teammates.  Although we came an agonizingly 4 points short on the scoreboard, we can take a lot of positives out of this game.  It was good to see all new players to the team this year, Alwyn, Austin, Fletcher M., Josh, Tonnam and Sheraz, continue to grow in confidence and contribute to the team with such spirit.  It was equally pleasing to see experienced players such as Denzell, Jasper, Jules, Mac, Mason and Pat continue to show improvement and are becoming influential contributors.

Best Players: Connor, Dan N., Denzell, Jack, James, Josh, Sheraz

Goals: JP 2, James 2

Mitcham under 15

Teams: Mitcham V Rowville

Summary: Playing 18 from a possible list of 25 meant Sunday's clash was always going to be difficult.  Bailey Prokop is our most recent recruit - without we would have been reduced to 17.  Vice-Captain Declan Magee returned after a buckle fracture and continues to demonstrate his high standard of courageous football.  Patrick Cotter was given the chance to play up forward and kicked his first goal.  The boys were within touch at half time, and despite the final margin, managed to keep Rowville honest.  There are not many teams who can hold as well as the U15 with more than 25% of the team sidelined.

Best Players: Declan Magee Bailey Prokop

Goals: Lucas (2), Sam (1), Patrick (1)

Under 17

Huge congatulations to our Under 17 team who came from behind to defeat Blackburn at Walker Park on Sunday (See attached photos).  This was the fist win in two years for some in this team / group and it was a gutsy performance and one many of us who were there will remember for a long time.  Well done to the boys and the Coaching Staff!  Something to build on for the future!
