Timing Rules

GAMES SHALL BE 2 X 20 MINUTE HALVES

EACH TEAM WILL RECEIVE TWO (2) TIME-OUTS PER HALF. CLOCK WILL STOP FOR ALL TIMEOUTS BARRING HEAT POLICY TIMEOUTS

CLOCK WILL STOP IN THE LAST ONE (1) MINUTE OF THE FIRST (1st) HALF AND IN THE LAST THREE (3) MINUTES OF THE SECOND (2nd) HALF

HALF-TIME WILL BE NO LONGER THAN 2 MINUTES IN DURATION

 

SHOT CLOCK

SHOT CLOCK WILL BE USED WHERE POSSIBLE IN THE FOLLOWING GRADES:

  • UNDER 14-18 A & AR GRADES
  • UNDER 18 B GRADE
  • ALL UNDER 20 GRADES


FINALS

IN THE RESULT OF A TIE (FINALS ONLY), THREE (3) MINUTE OVERTIME PERIODS WILL BE PLAYED UNTIL THERE IS A WINNER

 

BALL SIZE

  •                 UNDER 10s & UNDER 12s WILL USE A SIZE FIVE (5) BALL
  •                 UNDER 14s WILL USE A SIZE SIX (6) BALL
  •                 GIRLS UNDER 16s – UNDER 20s WILL USE A SIZE SIX (6) BALL
  •                 BOYS UNDER 16s – UNDER 20s WILL USE A SIZE SEVEN (7) BALL

           

HEAT POLICY

At 30C heat policy is optional, once temperature reaches 35C its compulsory

If no time-out has been called when the clock reaches 15:00, then a time-out will be called by the referees at the next whistle.

Compulsory timeout at the first whistle on or after the clock reads 10:00

Compulsory timeout at the first whistle on or after the clock reads 5:00

 

Late Start

  • The penalty for a late start shall be 1 point for every minute
  • At halftime the game is forfeited 20-0 by the team which did not appear with the minimum number of players (4)

 

Other Game Regulations

  • Zone defence is strongly discouraged for all U12 and U14 games at the Eltham-Dandenong Junior Basketball Tournament as with VJBL ruling, however no penalty will be enforced
  • 3 point shots will be recognised in all grades. The extended 3 point line will be used in all U16, U18 and U20 games. The inside 3 point line will be used for all other matches.
  • The foul line will be advanced for all U10 and U12 games to the designated line, or agreed line by the referees/Venue Supervisor
  • 3 seconds in the key will be observed in all grades and age groups except U10 and U12 where 5 seconds will be observed.
  • Players names may be added at any time during a game, but in a team’s first game, a player whose name is added after half time, shall be required to show the Venue Organiser a player’s ticket, before participating in the game
