Giants Pre-Game Report

Game Preview:

Well, being Thursday evening, it seems a reasonable time to preview the weekend coming for the mighty Giants, playing a thus-far-unlucky Dunsborough team at 10:30 on the Barnard Rollercoaster.

Training last night was exciting, with only Gemma missing from the track. Reports indicate that she did not receive any injuries during her singing lesson (good luck for the eisteddfod coming up!) which is never a certain thing with Gem – she has copped a couple of whacks this season already.

It was pleasing to see Callum back on the training track. He missed last week’s training with non-specific illness (don’t want to give too much away to the opposition!) but trained with purpose last night. He is expected to line up at centre-forward on Saturday.

Josh ‘Lazarus’ Nicholas appears to have risen from the depth of despair, having sufficiently recovered from a debilitating knee injury. Medical staff have cleared him to play on Saturday, but the pugnacious defender will have ongoing scans in order to rule out long-term damage to the knee. He was observed to run last night without discomfort, which bodes well for Saturday.

Morgan ‘Hop-a-long’ Hughes has missed some ‘team-time’ with hamstring & heel injuries. However, he trained solidly last night, and looks a probable starter for Saturday’s crucial line up. Medicos will put Hughes through a final fitness test on Saturday in order for him to prove his fitness to take the field. It is likely that he will be sitting down at half time; possibly with a newspaper & cool drink and keeping an ear on the wireless. That’s just how Hughesy rolls.

The major concern for the Giants this week is that we will be Ackerman-less. That’s right – not a single Ackerman to be found. That’s ok – we don’t need them! (sniff!) Go and have a swim if you want (pout). Just cos you’re good at lots of things (green-eyed stare!)

Actually, this causes serious issues. Without an Ackerman in sight, we become one dimensional in our linguistics for the day. Jokes aside, the team trusts that both the boys do exceptionally well in their swim-meet on Saturday. Safe travels.

Jack, Jack, Josh, Evan, Jarred & Jacob all attended training last night, and did nothing to disgrace themselves or their families. I just felt as though I needed to mention them in this report…

Kick off is 10:30am on Saturday morning. The undulating hills of Barnard Park will be our playground.

Go well, fellas!
