The Game of AFL Masters (AFLM) provides the opportunity for players 35 years and over to enjoy the game of Aussie Rules Football in a safe, supportive and fun environment.
After first commencing in 1980 the sport is governed by AFL Masters (formerly MAF / Superules Australia Inc) and its nine member state Associations and is now played by over 119 teams throughout Australia. AFL Masters has a national standardised set of modified rules designed to reduce the risks of injury and has the benefit of being acknowledged and affiliated with the AFL and the Australian Sports Commission.
You will find a welcoming atmosphere at AFL Masters clubs with an emphasis on family involvement and fun social interaction. While a good level of fitness is required to enjoy the game fully, training runs once or twice a week without huge time commitments are the order of the day for AFL Masters.
The big event of the year for AFL Masters is the National Carnival which is played annually, rotating to various State venues. This events attracts 40 teams across 5 age groups and is the largest Australian Rules National Carnival played of any age.
AFL Masters is "Football for Fun, Fitness and Friendship". It is played in a friendly spirit under modified rules to provide the opportunity for the mature aged to participate in the game of Australian Rules Football in a friendly, supportive environment regardless of age, fitness and ability with the focus on football for fun.
Games are played on a fortnightly basis usually on a Sunday morning followed by a bbq and a few drinks as well as a few tall stories and lies on the way we played.
Each year every player gets the chance to nominate themselves for the Queensland National Carnival side from which the Over 35's, Over 40's, Over 45's, Over 50's, and Over 55's representative sides will be chosen.
