Albany Skills and State Selection Trials

This newsletter is just to let you know that there is a fantastic opportunity for all Great Southern Academy players who are currently in years 9 and 10, academy coaches and level “O” coaches.

On Saturday the 4th of December ( 1-30pm to 5-30pm @ the ALAC) the state coach of the u/16s girls side will be in Albany to run a skills and state selection sessions for BOTH girls and boys. The Great Southern is very fortunate to have a coach of this calibre happy to run state selection trials in Albany and we need to be supporting this concept. Regardless of whether you are interested in state selection (which I hope you all are!) or not this is a fantastic opportunity to receive state based coaching ideas. I would hope that ALL current academy years 8 and 9 players take this opportunity and attend.

Academy coaches are invited to help in the presentation of these trials. You will be required to help run the skill development sessions. Being involved in these sorts of sessions is a fantastic way to learn new skills and exercises but more importantly it will give you an insight into the level the state coaches want our players to achieve!

Level “O” coaches, I would invite you to attend to see the kind of exercises coaches at “the cutting edge” of basketball are running. Regardless of the exercises you can reduce the skill level so it can be run at any age group. This session will provide you with wonderful resources to further your coaching knowledge and skill development exercises.

Parents, please encourage your son/daughter to attend as I believe the experience will be well worth the effort.

Academy players, at this stage I am looking at Sunday 19th of December in Denmark to be our next academy session. I realise this is close to Christmas but the availability of courts and coaches is a delicate balance!!!

Hoping you can all make December the 4th!

 Yours in Basketball,

Ken Davies.
