Forty of the WA Country’s best up and coming 14-15 year old basketball juniors were put through their paces at Cockburn Basketball Stadium with the second of the Country NITP camps held last Saturday.
The whole day camp event was the second consecutive week that the State’s country athletes were combined together from all of regions of WA for a skills intensive following on from the success of the Kalamunda camp the previous weekend.
Athletes from both the Under 16 Boys and Girls State squad as well as Australian Under 15 Pacific Coast Slam juniors worked through the rigours of intensive skills training under the guidance of Basketball WA’s Vlad Alava, filling in for High Performance Manager David Herbert, who was back home in Victoria on leave.
Among the other coaches in attendance were Basketball WA’s Craig Reynolds and Adam Forde, former Under 18 Country Girls Assistant Coach Peter Nalder, while Under 16 State Country Girls Head Coach Neill Stellard and Country Boys Assistant Coach Adrian Masters were also present working with the athletes.
Continuing on with WA’s State Development philosophy, all players were put through the current best practice methodologies in training, skills and given exposure on the skills required to achieve continued success.
Following on from the camp, the Australian Pacific Coast Slam teams will continue their preparation for play in Port Macquarie in January 2012, while the Under 16 State squads will continue to work towards their National Junior Championships in Tamworth, NSW from the 7th to 14th of July 2012.
