Steve Axten is Basketball Northern Territory’s Most Valuable Volunteer for 2012. Steve received his award from the Minister for Sport and Recreation, Karl Hampton MLA, at a presentation ceremony in Alice Springs this week.

Paul Feeney, President of Basketball Northern Territory, said “Steve is a fantastic volunteer in all aspects of basketball. He has a wealth of experience in coaching which he is very willing to share with young Territorians in Alice Springs and across the Territory.”

“The success of basketball in the Territory is absolutely dependent on volunteers. We are very fortunate to have Territorians who volunteer their time to coach, organise games, raise funds and keep all the clubs going”, said Mr Feeney.

“National Volunteer Week is a special opportunity to say thank you to all our basketball volunteers and to highlight the contribution of Steve Axten.”

Steve Axten has an extensive involvement in basketball in the Territory at all levels, from coaching grassroots local clubs through to the Territory’s elite basketball players and everything in between. Steve’s coaching includes Alice Springs representative teams, the National Intensive Training Programs, Head Coach for BNT’s U16 and U18s teams, the Desert Storm cluster for School Sport NT, the Federal Wallabies and the U14 Suns Girls.

Steve has also volunteered his time to help administer and govern basketball in the Territory through membership of BNT (past Board member) and currently as a Board member of the Alice Springs Basketball Association.
