Although it is an endangered species, this animal elected by an overwhelming majority gains a renewed fame, and not only among hunters.
This mascot has been named Joemy: she will carry a message of friendship and peace and her mission will be to embody the motto: « Pacific Attitude ».
Her colour - blue - reminds everybody that the 22 island countries which will take part in the Games are bathed by the same ocean.
Her name – Joemy – is an invitation: pronounced « cho-ey-me » like in the Drehu word« troemi », which derives from the English phrase « Join me ».
The initial sketch was drawn by Jean-Philippe Colobert, a student at Jules Garnier High School, during an art lesson, and it was touched up by a professional graphic designer so as to make the character fit for 3-D animation.
The public will discover redesigned Joemy in a televised spot broadcasted on Télé Nouvelle-Calédonie from Thursday, August 27th. This lively and merry mascot reminds everyone that D-Day is only two years away!
