Roosters player selection process

The expansion of the NRL Touch Premiership and, more specifically, the inclusion of the Sydney Roosters from 2019 will provide an important pathway for elite players in Alliance states to compete in Touch Football Australia (TFA’s) highest level domestic competition.

The Roosters teams in both Men’s and Women’s divisions will feature a mix of players from the Alliance states along with other elite-level players from New South Wales and Queensland that have not been selected in other clubs.

TFA CEO Steve Mitchell says the teams will be made up of the best players available; there will be no minimum or maximum quota of players from Alliance states in the Roosters team. “Players who are good enough and who can make themselves available to commit to the Roosters teams will be selected,” he said.

The Roosters teams will be managed by the TFA High-Performance unit, similar to the Alliance program in past years; TFA will appoint coaches, will lead the Talent ID process for the selection of both teams and will manage team logistics.

Once coaches have been appointed, further information will be provided on the TID process. While it won’t be the only forum, it is important to flag that National Touch League (NTLs) will be critical to the process, so players interested in being considered for these teams are encouraged to attend that tournament.

“We’re very much looking forward to having this NRL Premiership title-holder club, the Roosters, involved in the NRL Touch Premiership next year, and it will be great to see more Alliance players competing,” said Mitchell.
