Whitney Souness finalist for Emerging Sportswoman of the Year

Congratulations to Whitney Souness who has been nominated as one of four finalists selected in the category of Emerging Sportswoman of the Year for the 2014 Dominion Post Wellington Sportsperson of the Year Awards.  Whitney's fellow finalists in the category include Julianne Alvarez (Golf), Jacinta Beckley (Basketball), Jackie Kiddle (Rowing) so she has done us proud bringing netball to the spotlight!

 

With a number of recognitions to add to her playing record to date her most recent achievement include:

 

  • Selected in the 2013 New Zealand Secondary Schools Squad
  • Named in the 2013 Trans-Tasman Secondary Schools Tournament Selection
  • Named Mid Court Player of the Tournament for the 2013 Lower North Island Secondary Schools Tournament
  • Named in the 2013 Tournament Selection for the U19 NZ Age Group Championships
  • Named in the 2013 Tournament Selection for the Lion Foundation Netball Championships
  • Named in the 2013 Tournament Selection for the NZ Secondary Schools Netball Championships
  • Selected for the 2014 NZ U21 Development Programme

Whitney is already a clear up and coming sports star in our eyes we are delighted she has been recognised in a regional capacity in this way.  We wish her all the very best as she attends the award ceremony on Thursday 12th June held at the TSB Bank Arena.

The six judge panel deliberated over more than 200 nominations to finally arrive on their list of finalists in 12 categories.  Winners of their category are then up for the Supreme Sportsperson of the Year Award.  This year’s finalists boast an impressive array of achievements and success both nationally and across the globe.
