2017 Off-Season Development Programme - Term 4

Just because the netball season has come to an end it doesn't mean you can't continue to grow to your full potential in preparation for next season!

The programme is aimed at motivated netballers who are currently in Year 7-11 and wish to maintain their skills outside the netball season.  Contrary to previous years, this revamped initiative targets players currently in Year 7-11 in 2017.  Please ensure you register for your correct age group which should be the school year you are currently in this year.

Year 7&8: Mondays - 6 weeks
1 hour sessions held from 5.00pm to 6.00pm weekly.
Starts 30th October and ends 4th December 2017 [avoids 23rd October due to Labour Day]

Six weekly sessions will be run with the support of Netball Wellington Centre development staff with the below plan in mind (subject to amendment).  This programme has less focus on fitness and more focus on exploring game knowledge and practical game play therefore encourage thinking, decision-making netballers:

SESSION 1 - Recap Court Balance
It's time to look back at the importance of court balance and understand how getting it right sets your team up for the Big 4 which includes Centre Pass Attack, Centre Pass Defence, Long Court Attack & Long Court Defence.

SESSION 2: Centre Pass Attack
In this session we will cover balance, communication, variations, options for first & second phase of the centre pass and the importance of width & depth for attackers.

SESSION 3: Centre Pass Defence
Let's take a look at the role of the individual and the various units that can work together to effectively apply defence of the centre pass.

SESSION 4: Long Court Attack
Court balance and timing, vision, options, leads, decision-making and skill executions are all critical elements to get right when moving the ball from one end of the court to the other.

SESSION 5: Long Court Defence
Let's once again look at the role of the individual, the various units, and how the entire team can successfully work together to create opportunities throughout the court.

SESSION 6: Quick Fire
This is your chance to put our NWC Development Staff under the pump!  You ask a question and we'll give/show you the answer on court or off court.  It is up to you so ask away and fill your bag of player tricks.

Comment Guidelines: The SportsTG Network is made up of players, families and passionate sports followers like you who have a strong opinion about sport. That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand.
