What is Twilight Netball?
Twilight is a 7-a-side Netball Competition run at Hataitai Courts (outdoors) or ASB Sports Centre (indoors). Netball Wellington Centre offers Women’s and Mixed, Social and Competitive grades. Games are 40 minutes and are a great way to maintain fitness, meet new people and foster team building within organisations.
During Winter & Summer, we offer three nights of netball incorporating a Women's only league on Mondays with the option of either outdoors at Hataitai Netball Courts or indoors at the ASB Sports Centre in Kilbirnie. The Autumn (Term 2) and Winter (Term 3) leagues reduce in numbers as many of our female players opt out of playing Twilight as they get full swing into their Saturday Winter Competition and mid-week training routines. With this in mind, the competition reduces to offer only mixed competition traditionally on Wednesdays and Thursdays held at the ASB Sport Centre in Kilbirnie.
Dates for 2013:
Wednesday Mixed League starts Wednesday 8th May and runs for 10 weeks ending Wednesday 10th July.
Thursday Mixed League starts Thursday 9th May and runs for 10 weeks ending Thursday 11th July.
Venues:
The Wednesday and Thursday mixed leagues are offered indoors only at the ASB Sports Centre.
Game Times:
There are up to four rounds played per night - the first round starts at 6.15pm, second at 7.05pm, third at 7.55pm and where necessary the final round starts at 8.45pm and finishes by 9.25pm. (Please note, these timings are yet to be fully confirmed and may be altered by up to 15 minutes dependant on court booking availability at the ASB Sports Centre)
Fees:
Wednesday ASB Mixed League: $500 per team (fees based on Term 1 - yet to be confirmed for Term 2)
Thursday ASB Mixed League: $500 per team (fees based on Term 1 - yet to be confirmed for Term 2)
plus additional
Umpire Contribution: $10 cash per game collected upon registration
Optional costs:
Season bib hire: $45 season bib hire at ASB paid up front with registration fees.
Weekly bib hire: $5 per week paid upon registration on the night
Competition Format:
While there are no Women's-only grades offered in the Term 2 & 3 competition, all-womens teams are welcome to play in the mixed competition as long as they are comfortable to do so.
All leagues offer the option of competing in either social or competitive grades and you are asked to indicate your preference upon registering for the competition. Please bear in mind however that your intial grade may be open to change as the first two weeks are often used as grading games to allocate teams to their appropriate skill-based grades in an effort to ensure an enjoyable competition.
Teams are usually made up of a maximum of 12 players with a maximum of three men able to play on the court at any one time.
Only one male per team is allowed in each goal circle. With this in mind you could play with one male as either GS or GA, one male in the mid-court positions (WA, C, or WD) and one male in the GD or GK position.
Games are played in accordance with the traditional 7-a-side netball rules therefore there are no nets surrounding the courts.
Games are structured as four quarters each lasting 10 minutes with a 2 minute break between quarters and 4 minutes between games.
Match balls and umpires are provided on the night so you need only provide a team of 7 players, bibs and bring your $10 umpire contribution.
Defaults:
Teams that default outside a 48 hour notice period incur a fine of $70 per game. Default fees must be paid prior to taking the court for the following week. Given sufficient notice, the Centre may arrange an alternative game for your opposition where possible.
Fee Payment
Please note, in contrast to previous competitions there is no option for weekly payment. Teams are now requested to pay in full up-front prior to the start of the league in order to secure a space. Teams will be invoiced and places confirmed via email once paid in full.
