NIS Kauri - Intermediate Inter-Satellite Competition

The Intermediate Inter-Satellite Competition finals were held on Saturday 25th August at Hataitai Courts.  There was an impressive amount of exciting play and talent on display!

Congratulations to Raroa Eagles who took first place in the competition after a nail-biting win against Holy Cross Wildcats - final score 28-26.  It was wonderful to see the team-work and well controlled ball-skills from each side.

NIS Kauri managed third place in their play-off for 3rd & 4th against EBIS Totara - final score 29-7.  Marsden K1 and Raroa Falcons provided another exciting close game playing off for 5th & 6th place with Marsden pulling through to win 17 - 14.  And in the 7th & 8th playoffs, SWIS Magic played very well to keep the score-line very tight - in the end Kelburn Suffragettes managed to pull away to secure a 13 - 11 win.

Well done to all players, coaches, managers, umpires & supporters who made the season a highly enjoyable one!  We hope that you all keep up your great skills over the off-season as Sandra Edge suggested at the prize-giving and look forward to seeing you back on the netball court next year.

If you find you miss netball in the meantime, Netball Wellington Centre has the following programmes on offer in Term 4 and Term 1 to keep your netball interest up!

The Junior Netball Academy programme will take a break in Terms 4 and 1 and there will instead be an after school Off-Season Programme for Year 7 - 10 starting Monday 29th October and running for six weeks. The programme is for players who are motivated to take netball a little more seriously and may be keen to consider trialling for reps next year.  There will be a variety of topics covered to give players the tools to effectively continue their development and fitness in the off-season. Details are still being finalised but will be updated on this website once known. It is intended that there will be a follow-on Pre-Season Programme in Term 1 next year for further preparation ahead of the season in May and before picking up again with Junior Netball Academy in Term 2 & 3.

For Years 3-8 we are again offering a Term 4 Kids’ Comp starting from October running through to December as well as a five-a-side league for Year 9 & 10. The Kids' Comp will have three grades on offer – Year 3&4, Yr 5&6, and Yr 7&8. Games will be played indoors on a Wednesdays from 4.00pm – 6.00pm at the Kilbirnie ASB Sports Centre with game times set for 4.00pm, 4.40pm or 5.20pm. We invite players to create their own team of friends or school mates – any mix of players across any school, both boys and girls - can play. Game ball, bibs, umpires and prizes are all provided for you. It’s a great opportunity for teams that were playing within their own junior satellite competition to reunite and continue to play, or friends to have the opportunity to play for fun. Registrations are not yet open as the details are just being finalised but you’ll find details on this website once registrations open. It is intended to offer the Kids' Comp again in Term 1 next year also.

The October Holiday Programme will be run in the second week of the school holidays and this time will have a multi-sport appeal focused on having fun! The holiday programme caters to Year 3 – 8 children who would like a chance for some variety at the end of the netball season and will run from 9.00am–12.00pm each day. Each day will consist of 1 hour 15 mins of netball games and activities followed by 1 hour 15 mins of a different sport – Monday will be Ultimate Frisbee, Tuesday Futsal (indoor soccer), Wednesday Turbo Touch, Thursday Floorball, Friday Obstacle Course Challenge. Cost to attend is $100 for the week or $30 per day. As always, the April Holiday Programme will focus on helping participants get back into netball ahead of the start of the season in May.

If you have any enquiries about these programmes in the meantime - please email Maria Hegarty - Netball Development Administrator on nda@netbalwellington.co.nz.
