Thunder Storm hits Junior State Cup

For the first time in history, affiliates from Canberra were able to compete at NSW Junior State Cup. Overall, 13 teams from Deakin Thunder and Gungahlin Cats travelled to Wagga Wagga, NSW to participate in the Southern Conference. Deakin was represented with U10, U12, U14 and U16’s in both Boys and Girls, and Gungahlin Cats were represented by U12 Boys and U14 Girls.

Majority of Thunder and Cats players had never played at a touch tournament before last weekend. The improvement and progression from individual and team performances was outstanding. Coaches and managers could not be any prouder of their teams.

There were three stand out performances from the Deakin Thunder affiliate:

  • The U14 Girls were knocked out in the Semi Final from a very strong Parramatta outfit who ended up winning the conference undefeated.
  • Deakin U14 Boys (2) made the Quarter Finals going down against Conference Runners Up, Parramatta Eels.
  • Thunder U16 Girls were crowned 2019 Southern NSW Champions after a close 7-6 win over City of Orange. Deakin #12 Georgia Martin-Pang was named Player of the Final after a standout performance.

The teams mentioned above progress through to the NSW Junior State Cup Finals (North v South) will be held in Wollongong, NSW on 27-28th April 2019.

Team Wrap’s will be published soon.
