Super League: Round 6

The claws were out for a historical win for Gungahlin Cats beating Canberra City Bears for the first time in the Women’s Super League competition.

Kristen Corrie produced a standout performance with four (4) touchdowns against the City Bears. The Cats took the lead at half-time and coach Roxy McKay kept the team calm, however on the other side of the field, City Bears coach, Danny Goodwin had plenty to say telling the Bears to drive and to keep their cool in attack. Allira Davis was dangerous all night with plenty of metres gained throughout the game.

Woden Eagles were without NSW State of Origin Women’s Open player, Sophie Broadhead, however did not lose control with a strong performance against the favourites, Tuggeranong Vikings. The women from Vikings were scoring off set plays all night, with Breanna Toze scoring four (4) touchdowns herself and putting herself at the top of the touchdown scorer lists, tied with Viking Brodie McCann.

Cats and Vikings went back-to-back tonight in both divisions beating Canberra City Bears and Woden Eagles in close contests.

The Woden Men played with plenty of pride and are only becoming stronger as they play more footy each week. Nick Tankey was throwing long balls all night left-to-right and right-to-left hitting his wingers on the chest. Ben Wylie was impressive as usual with a strong two touchdown performance against the Men in Blue.

Gungahlin wanted to make more history with the first ever night with both teams walking away with the chocolates, and the Cats did it in a close game against the City Men. Steve Kennedy was up against his old club and loved every moment with a standout performance setting up numerous touchdowns. Coach Mick Patman would be proud of the Cats with a the second win against the Canberra City Bears in 2018.
