...JOSH BATES – 2016 ROB WOFFINDEN CLASSIC WINNER
An elite group of riders fronted up to the tapes for the 2015/16 Rob Woffinden Classic with Daniel Winchester top scoring on the night.
Those 500cc riders! Fast, furious and frenetic! Jack managed to somersault not one bike but two on the night – how Kale came back onto the track after being flattened by one of them, we have no idea!
We then had the scorers scrambling back through the heats as Frank Smart, Josh Bates, Cameron Heeps and Connor Coles finished the night with 10 points each. Frank and Josh went straight through to the A final whilst Connor and Cameron joined Kale and Doug in the B final, Cam dominated this final joining the others for the A final. The riding was fast and furious with the top spot changing several times until Frank slid out and Daniel had mechanical issues, Josh waved away the pressure, coming out winner over Cam Heeps – what a race!
Kale, Doug and Connor raced superbly all night to make it to the B final. There were wheel lifts as the tapes came up and then more as they put on show spectators won’t forget!
The night started off with a bang – Tim, Shelby, Jarryd and Mitchell racing against the clock for a place in the Woffy with Shelby and Mitchell making it through. Carley, Des, Layne, Blake and Ethan had mixed fortunes on the night; there were slide outs with bikes going in a few different directions.
The peewees and super Lites supported the qualifiers in the pre-program then stood proud with the 16 500cc riders vying for the nights takings with the National Anthem and minutes silence for Rob Woffinden and Paul Pinfold.
Our 125cc riders came out to play, welcoming back Luke from injury and Brad walking away from the night with a few bruises, racing well all night then sliding out in the final. Declan is certainly picking up the pace, top scoring then winning the Junior Woffy Title, followed by Luke then Jack who is improving every week. Cuan raced well then poked a hole in his motor and Patrick is picking up the pace and getting experience out there.
The sidecars gave the 500cc time to recover between heats, putting on a great show of racing and don’t tell Matt you can’t get squashed between bikes! Luckily he only fractured a small bone in the foot and is now mooning about! The Scoble duo raced in the infield again, giving the officials a heart attack as they rolled off the chair. Russell and Juston put on a class act coming out winners overall, coming up against Vince & Andy, Scott and Luke who filled in for Matt – thanks Luke – you had a busy night! Ricky and Steve made it to the tapes for the first time this season with Ken and Steve coming up to the track from Collie – hope you had a great night on the smaller track! Our remainder riders, Mark/Luke; Jason/Gary; Ben/Jamie; Paul/Brett; Horrie/Matt; Tony/Ash provided a great nights entertainment with close racing all night.
Woffy 2015/16 – what a night and what a crowd! No blade of grass was safe, families picnicking, canteen cranking alongside the coffee car and snack truck, bar pumping with some live music form Mixtape and plenty of action from the track. Our riders in all divisions put on a show of close action, thrills and spills, a big thankyou to you all from the Committee.
First round videos and finals are up on the Facebook page; Jon and Woz are editing photos. Karen, Dave and their teams and the Committee, Officials and Volunteers are recovering before Saturday Teams Meeting comes up!
Our international stadium is coming along – the Website is up and running and we invite you to take a look and, as always, there is the opportunity to sponsor and donate if you wish, for the air fence the committee wishes to put in place.

Hope all is finding you well after the massive night at the Rob Woffinden Classic! I wish to extend my deepest Appreciation and Thankyou to Peta Shirley who started early on BBQ-ing 100 hamburger patties and 150 sausages and tons of onions until Cuan started riding… Michelle Smith did a wonderful job the front line… Rita Peachey cooked up over 100kg of her classic chippy’s… Kirsten Manion made up her fantastic burgers… Sue Mitchell for finishing off BBQ-ing over 200 hamburger patties and onions… and a big Thankyou to Paul Manion for setting up the chip fryers and for your help at the beginning of the event and for your popping in and out of the canteen throughout the night! Phew!
This Saturday night we have the British v Australian Club Racing event and I would like just two people please… one to put their hand up for BBQ-ing starting at around 4.30pm and one to put their hand up to make up hamburgers from about 6pm for an hour or so.
Thankyou and see you Saturday night!

...Pinjar International Stadium
Construction is proceeding at a steady rate, however to be ready to race on will require a serious effort to raise much needed funding.
The stadium is at the stage where with a little work a track will be ready to race on, perhaps as early as April.
Having a surface is great, but to be able to provide the high quality event we all had the privilege to enjoy at the 2016 Woffy requires more than a track surface. We immediately need to construct retaining walls, spectator fencing and basic infrastructure such as power and water.
From day one we are planning to have an airfence for rider safety, but we are talking 100's of 1000's of dollars.
Your club and racing runs solely on the efforts of volunteers and the kind donations of cash and materials our sponsors provide and the very small income from specators through the gate, canteen and bar, of which we are very appreciative.
To finish Pinjar International Stadium will require more funds than we currently generate. We have figured that with the amount of speedway fans that are around the state, country and world if every person donated just a single dollar we could build the stadium.
With this in mind we have begun a fund raising campaign, which will officially be launched very soon. The theme is Donate a Dollar.
We do implore you, your 1$ (or more if you want!) WILL make a difference, so please don't put it off click this link to go straight to the Donate page where you can contribute by paypal or credit card. CLICK HERE TO DONATE YOUR $1
So easy, and thank you
