2011 Women's U25 World Wheelchair Basketball Championships

Congratulations to Team Australia who was won the SILVER MEDAL at the U25 WWBC.

(St.Catharines) In the final game at the inaugural 2011 Women’s U25 World Wheelchair Basketball Championships at Brock University in St. Catharines, Ontario, Team USA took home the gold medal with a score of 66 – 39 against Australia.

Thanks to initially sluggish scoring by both teams, Australia hung on to a 3-2 lead for the first several minutes of the game. In the second quarter, however, the Americans found their rhythm and the Australians struggled to find a solution to the Americans’ solid defensive wall. The USA concluded the first half with a 22-point lead, including 14 first-half points by Desiree Miller.

In the second half, Australia came back with a stronger defensive and offensive line, taking more accurate shots on net. Though Australia’s #7 Amber Merritt came through for her team with consistent blocks and #6 Bridie Kean contributed 15 points, the American’s scoring never let up. The USA was up 58 – 26 entering the final quarter and continued to gain momentum as the minutes counted down. Team USA finished the game with a 66 – 39 final score. Miller had a game-high 26 points, finishing the tournament with 99 points in total.
