Game Night Staff - Hawks Administrator

Team Hawks has a team of dedicated game night staff who help out behind the scenes every week. Their contributions to the club are valued and we want to share the great work they’re doing. This week we’re paying thanks to Jenny Purser, who does so much for Team Hawks it would be too hard to fit in this introduction! The fact that she happily does approximately infinity things (I’ve counted them!) is a testament to her commitment to the Club.

How long have you been involved with the club? Ben started playing WABL for Hawks at age 11 so for about 12 years (minus a year off when he had Osgood slaters - 2003!). We used to brave the elements of the old Perry Lakes Stadium stands and watch SBL games during this time too.

What are the main things you do (please summarise as there’s not enough room to fit the infinite list!)? Some would say – “Boss everyone around” but… I’ve been the SBL Director and Administrator since 2009. This means being the main point of contact for the SBL teams, being the game night operations person for all home games and preparing all the paperwork e.g. contracts and compliance stuff, imports visas and any other necessary information for BWA that relates to SBL. Along with this, I’ve also been the Hawks Administrator since May 2011. This involves running the day-to-day operations of the Club and covers our Junior Competition, WABL, SBL, Schools Comps, Camps, liaising with BWA and VenuesWest as well as any other operational matters on a daily basis.

What made you want to get involved? Both Ben and Emma played Junior Competition through Subiaco Juniors and then joined the Hawks. The Club was always calling for parent volunteers (nothing’s changed eh!). I didn’t have the skillset to coach so I took on the manager’s role for Emma’s WABL team from 2006 until 2009 – this suited my bossy nature!

Favourite things about being such a big part of our game nights and club? The interesting range of people you meet, the friends we’ve made through our Hawks involvement over the years, the enjoyment of watching the players from an early age move through the Juniors and WABL ranks to end up with an SBL contract, I love watching a WIN and the satisfaction of seeing game nights run smoothly.

Favourite moments this year? I would have to say when Shawn Dennis and CJ signed their coaching contracts and joined the Hawks family - after several years of my bantering with them and their insistence of not wanting to take on a coaching role yet. I think I won? And of course working closely with you Lani! **Aw thanks JenPur, it has been the best working with you! =)**Beating East Perth earlier in the year. Past years - playing in finals, although I would like to be involved with a Championship Win before I retire – lol! Watching Adrian Majstrovich (AJ) shoot baskets – perfect.

Anything else you'd like to add? Hawks is a great Club to be involved in – we would love to have more people ‘see the light’ and get involved. Thanks to all that help out on game nights – without you all we wouldn’t be able to run such a smooth night. Thanks to you too Lani for still Hawking while Croccing in Townsville!

And as everyone says… GO HAWKS!
