Meet Rosie Tobin – Player Profile

Meet  Rosie Tobin – Player Profile

Age: 29

Nickname: Ro

Work/Study: In my final year of health and phys ed teaching degree at university of Notre Dame. Working part time as a senior human resources officer at Department of Mines and Petroleum since 2008 and Penrhos boarding house as a recreation officer since 2010.

Why basketball? When I was young I did gymnastics and was good at it until I started growing long limbs then at around 15 I took up basketball and fell in love with it. It has helped me to make most of my Aussie friends when I moved here and I get really down in the dumps when I'm not playing, I just love the game.

How many years have you been playing? Almost 15 years with a few years break in between while I travelled.

How have you found the season so far? We had a bit of a sketchy start, adjusting to the new coaching style and new team but it has also been a great learning experience getting some losses out of the way early in the season. We won 2 of the 4 quarters against top of the table wanneroo so we know where the benchmark level is that we need to play at. We can definitely beat any team in the league if we stick together and play good team basketball.

Favourite players/inspirational people: I was obsessed with Michael Jordan when I was younger! Most inspirational people for me are my parents. They worked so hard all their lives and I am very close to them even though they live on the other side of the world.

Favourite moments playing: winning the Sbl most improved female 2011 was an amazing achievement for me and I felt very honoured, although I'm probably the oldest ever recipient! 2 national schools championships and joint MVP with my twin sister Shelley, Dleague  champions 2009 and 2010 with hawks and allstar Dleague 2009 and 2010.

Three things you're good at other than basketball: cooking, renovating, exams.

Name 8 of your favourite things you couldn't live without: my family, my boyfriend, my health, basketball, cheese, tea, my bed, my iPhone.

If you could hang out with any 5 people in the world, who would they be? Probably 5 of my best friends from home. We only see each other once a year but its like we've never been apart and just pick up where we left off.

Favourite quote/saying/motto: if you want to lift yourself up, lift up someone else (B.T. Washington).

Anything else you'd like to add? Looking forward to a good season ahead!
