Well, the WSBL story did not end quite like the Hawks would have liked, with Willetton taking the WSBL Grand Final 80-54. After a rough start, the girls worked hard in the second half and grabbed a 10-0 run late in the third quarter, but Willetton ultimately held on to a significant lead.

Belinda O’Halloran top scored for Hawks with 11, with Lyndal Gardner next on 10. Willetton & Perry Lakes both now share the honours of having won the most championships, with six each. The Hawks team was understandably disappointed but were rallied by the great support they received from fans, family & friends at the game and afterwards. The Hawks M20s did themselves proud, painting themselves blue for the occasion and doing the best cheerleader impressions a group of men could muster. The boys were ably assisted by Pia who took one for the team, donning the hawk costume for the night.

On the following night, the MSBL Grand Final was won by underdogs Willetton against Lakeside, 107-96. In a successful double-header weekend for Willetton, this was the first championship won by Willetton Men.

Hawks will officaily conclude the SBL season with a windup at EURO Bar on Saturday 18th September. Presentations will be made for SBL Men and Women, as well as D League Men & Women, and Men 20.
